Development And Peace
The Social Justice and Peace Committee
This is a ministry of engagement in prayer, study, reflection, education and action on local, national and international social justice issues as understood in the light of the Gospel, and according to the social justice teachings of the Catholic Church.
The Social Justice and Peace Committee promote the following objectives:
- To promote and implement the campaigns of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. The Fall Education and Action raises awareness of the root causes of poverty and oppression and includes an action component. The Share Lent Campaign raises money to fund the ongoing self-help development projects in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, with a portion reserved for emergency needs. Emergency needs are publicized as they arise;
- To collaborate in our efforts with other parish ministries such as the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), the Knights of Columbus (K of C), Catechism and Youth Groups;
- To organize Social Justice Events for our parishioners to increase awareness;
- To collaborate with Catholic organizations, interfaith communities, and civil society organizations to address social justice and peace issues as they arise, such as disarmament, conflict resolution, poverty, violence, racism, human rights violations, economic inequalities and exploitation, and political oppression;
- To facilitate the sponsorship efforts of parishioners with relatives in refugee situations abroad and to help them become part of the Parish Community. Our Committee has representatives on the St. Ignatius Refugee Committee; and
- To participate in training, spiritual renewal and formation sessions.
Meeting Dates and Times to be announced.
